Revenue Accountant

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for the monthly revenue process including but not limited to the coding and processing of oil and gas sales including check processing and distribution, monthly variance analysis, reconciliation of revenue related general ledger balances, regulatory and severance tax reporting, and additional ad hoc assignments as needed.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Code and process oil and gas receipts as received

  • Prepare and submit federal, state and tribal royalty reports (if required)

  • Prepare and submit state and tribal severance tax reports (if required) this includes preparing and coding check requests for payment of taxes

  • Annual escheat reporting

  • Prepare and book oil and gas revenue accrual quarterly

  • Prepare and book quarterly DD&A expense estimate and actual year end DD&A calculation

  • Review cash applications by property and purchaser monthly to ensure accurate coding

  • Monthly reconciliation of revenue related general ledger accounts including oil and gas receivables, royalty payables, federal/state/tribal payables, etc.

  • Monthly tie out of suspense detail to general ledger and reconcile any variance

  • Prepare journal entries as needed to correct general ledger errors found while reconciling accounts

  • Maintain monthly gas balancing statements and pipeline reconciliation reports

  • Maintain monthly payout reports if required

  • Responsible for monthly sales variance analysis and reporting causes for major sales fluctuations

  • Responsible for revenue check writing process and distribution

  • Responsible for responding to all revenue related inquiries

  • Responsible for the set-up of check masks, purchasers, revenue decks, and WI/Royalty owners in accounting system

  • Ensure that W-9’s are on file prior to issuing royalty payments

  • Process and mail year-end 1099s

  • Responsible for revenue related audit support, ad hoc reporting, and other projects

  • Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing

    professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional associations

  • Protect company assets, including intellectual property, by keeping information confidential

  • Other duties as assigned by management

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting

  • Minimum of seven (7) years in depth experience of oil and gas revenue accounting (operated and non-operated properties)

  • Ability to work independently and solve problems

  • Ability to complete multiple, diverse tasks of differing priorities

  • Outstanding administrative and organizational skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with specific ability to translate complex operational information into an organized and presentable manner

  • Proficient using OGsys accounting software (On Demand version preferred), Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Outlook) and EnergyLink
